FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager will oversee the food safety portions of the farming and packing operations and ensure compliance with all food safety regulations. This position requires strong leadership skills, ability to work with the leadership team, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety, health, hygiene and product quality.

 

Job Duties:

  • Maintain compliance with all food safety and quality programs and certifications, including GFSI certification.
  • Serve as the PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) expert.
  • Oversee all food safety, regulatory, and quality programs, procedures, documentation, and systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date compliance documentation for all approved suppliers and providers; maintain all food safety portals.
  • Serve as the company representative for all regulatory and compliance audits and audit responses.
  • Work closely with all state and federal agencies such as WSDA, FDA and USDA.
  • Review all customer feedback and analyze issues, creating resolutions where necessary.
  • Maintain compliance and proper filing of all FDA required documentation.
  • Conduct routine testing adhering to microbiological testing guidelines and FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) compliance.
  • Facilitate/designate risk assessments on all acquired properties, fields, and facilities.
  • Write policies, standards, and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for food processes and procedures.
  • Create and implement training programs to drive food safety knowledge forward.
  • Attend food safety conferences and trainings as needed.

 

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company processes and ensure compliance with all safety and food safety regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit inquiries.
  • Cross-train with other members of the Management and Safety Teams to provide redundancy and overall stability to the business.
  • Implement and maintain effective policies and procedures related to food safety and to shipping processes and procedures.

 

Team Collaboration:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Bay Baby Produce Management Team and employees, promoting safe food distribution and safe employment practices
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment within the business
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to facilitate cross-functional teamwork and achieve organizational objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Familiarity with warehouse traceability software (Famous, Sage, Datatech, etc.) preferred.
  • Proficient with basic office computer software and time-keeping software.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate forklift, pallet jack, and other equipment as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • PCQI & HACCP Certified, (or ability to attain within 6 months of hire).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • A naturally curious individual who is always seeking challenges and eager to learn and grow within the organization.

 

EXPECTATIONS OF ALL BBP EMPLOYEES

  • Report any concerns or incidents promptly to promote workplace safety.
  • Attend daily or weekly team meetings to coordinate production goals.
  • Communicate regularly with management team members.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the BBP Employee Handbook.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • 120 hours of paid vacation will be available to the employee after a 90-day probationary period, (pro-rated to date of hire for first year). No vacation may be scheduled August 1st through October 31st without prior management approval.
  • Employee will be provided with a monthly stipend of $50 to cover personal cellular phone usage.
  • Health and Dental Benefits Plan with employer cost sharing. Employee cost will be determined by current market rate. Vision, Life and Accident insurance offered at employee cost.
  • 401(k) participation with employer contributions available after 365 days of employment and 1000 hours of service

 

COMPENSATION: $70,000 - $88,000 annually (DOE)

THIS IS A PREDOMINANTLY ON-SITE POSITION; OFF-SEASON SCHEDULE CAN BE FLEXIBLE

PEAK PRODUCTION AUGUST-OCTOBER
